Distributed Optical Fiber Sensing Technology
AIDriven is working with the R&D Team at Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications on a distributed fiber optic sensing technology for a Health Monitoring solution. This technology has several advantages, including low requirements for reuse of existing fiber optic cables and only requiring a terminal connection for signal transceiver equipment, as well as being cheap and having a high sensing density using both the light transmission and sensing medium. It is also suitable for extreme environments due to its resistance to electromagnetic interference and corrosion. It can be used for various structures due to its small size, lightweight, and strong geometric variability.
Technical framework
Description
- Reuse the fiber that has been implemented for communication
- Only the optical fiber terminal is required to connect the signal transceiver equipment
Application Scenarios
- Cheap
- high sensing density
(both light transmission medium and sensing medium)
- Good for extreme environments
(no electromagnetic interference, corrosion resistance)
- Suitable for the most structure being tested
(small size, light weight, and strong geometric variability)
